Social Media

Brockley social media Maye social mediaMany of you come to Midwest Writers because you enjoy the community here. But writers must find an online community, too. You do that by practicing literary citizenship all year long.

You’re busy writing, but have you thought about what happens after your book is published? Nowadays publishers count on authors to build a platform and get the message out about their books. If you aren’t sure what platform means, here’s MWW faculty member Jane Friedman’s definition of “platform.”

Simply put: Writers need to be good literary citizens and contribute to their writing communities. To do this, they need social media savvy, and we’re here to help.

At MWW, we offer a free, drop-in tutoring center called the Social Media Lab, staffed by Ball State students working as tutors.

You can schedule a 45-minute session (on Friday or Saturday) to discuss both the “how” and “why” of social media: for example, how to start a blog, or for the more advanced, how to increase the readership of your blog, as well as why you should use social media as a writer.

Read their bios and learn more about the MWW17 Social Media Tutors.
